If
you are a frequent business traveller,
your employer should provide an adequate
travel insurance policy. The terms and
conditions of this policy should be thoroughly
checked to ensure that you are covered
at all times and for all activities while
you are abroad. Activities that might
be covered under a business travel insurance
policy include manual work, or visiting
building sites etc. Driving insurance
may also play a significant part in a
business travel insurance policy. Insurance
cover that is provided with hire cars
is often very limited, and you could find
yourself liable for any expenses or damages
above a certain threshold. If you are
taking your own vehicle overseas for business
purposes, ensure that you will be fully
insured to drive in the country or countries
that you are visiting. You may also wish
to obtain insurance for being driven in
cars by drivers of other companies with
which you will liaise on your trip.
You
should ensure that the activities covered
by the policy correlate to what you are
doing while away on business. Also, if
you are planning to use some of your trip
as a holiday or vacation, you will most
likely have to extend your business insurance
policy to include this, and any activities
that you wish to do on your holiday.
Some
employers do not provide adequate travel
insurance for their travelling employees,
so it may be necessary to take out a separate
leisure travel policy that also covers
business travel. You should ensure that
you are covered in each country that you
visit on business trips, and also ensure
that you are covered for the entire duration
of your trip.
If
something goes wrong while you are on
a business trip, the resulting expenses
can be very high, not only for you, but
also for your employer. Business travel
insurance policies are perhaps better
suited to employers who wish to insure
their employees fully while abroad. This
can protect the reputation of their business,
but more importantly it ensures the wellbeing
of employees while they are travelling
on business. |
